As last season, I’m not going to provide a running commentary on results, all bets are with Smarkets unless otherwise noted and, as always, bet at your own risk and only bet what you can afford to lose.


Ligue 1

I’ve backed Lorient to win at home versus Nice at 3.5. Last season there was just three points between them at the end, and both have started with draws. The odds offer value for a home win, I think.


La Liga

Osasuna to win at home versus Athletic Bilbao is, I think, worth backing at 2.96. Last season there was just two points between them, and Osasuna have enjoyed a winning start (NB while Bilbao did lose their opener it was versus Real Madrid).

The new boys Las Palmas held Mallorca to a draw, while Valencia enjoyed an opening win against Sevilla which is a good but not amazing result. Last season, Valencia had a poor home record and that, coupled with Las Palmas’ decent start has prompted me to lay Valencia to win at home at 1.64. Was tempted by the 6.5 on a Las Palmas win but the home side had plenty of draws last time round.

Saudi Arabian Grand Prix Qualifying 00m28s While some races have been hit and miss, qualifying has almost always thrown up surprises this year. Saudi Arabia was no exception. The Aston Martin was not looking good, so Stroll being the fastest man eliminated in Q1 is not exactly unexpected. Also eliminated were Doohan, Hulkenberg, Ocon, and Bortoleto. There’s a lot to look back at and we’re going to start at the most obvious place: the title battle between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. Verstappen absolutely dominated the 2023 season, crushing all opposition to win by a comedically large 290 points. His next closest challenger was his team mate, Sergio Perez, who had just 285 points, less than half Verstappen’s total of 575.
